After passing the enchanting Boom Lake, the track disappears and a steep climb ensues — up and up over boulders and slippery slate-like scree that shifts underfoot, making the journey a test of endurance. At the top of a craggy peak the view opens up to the vastness of the Bow Valley, the Trans-Canada Highway and Bow River weaving their way through the landscape beneath the Eastern Rockies. I sat down, caught my breath and painted this — very pleased with myself for making the summit. It was only later I discovered it was the false one.
