Hi, I'm Karl Eddy

I've been making art all my life. The work has changed a great deal over the years, from early figurative paintings in the 1990s to the ink landscapes I make today, but the impulse has always been the same: to be out in the natural world and pay close attention to it.

I'm based on the beautiful Sapphire Coast of NSW, and travel is a big part of the practice. The paintings tell stories of the places I've been, the creatures I've encountered along the way, and the particular quality of light and atmosphere that each place holds.

My primary medium is ink, but I also work in watercolour, pencil, collage and pottery. The portfolio here spans several decades of practice, showing how the work has shifted and grown over the years.

"I often sit in nature and paint plein air. most of my current works are a direct product of this approach."

My Process & Inspiration

Most of my current work is made en plein air. I head out with paper, inks and a few brushes, sit somewhere in nature, and paint what's directly in front of me. Most pieces are A4 and finished in a single sitting. In my portfolio you'll find examples of many different mediums, but my primary medium of choice is ink. It gives me the freedom I want as a creator and the convenience of travelling light on plein air trips.
