My main job whilst house sitting a property near Evans Head was to mind and feed the two dogs that lived there. 'Farm' was the questionable term the owner used to describe the place — it sat on floodplain country with the homesite on an elevated ridge, a patchwork of cleared fields amongst remnant bush. Apparently the crops were rice and macadamias, though the fields were largely empty save for a few pumpkins and an obscure melon-like fruit I couldn't identify.

Each day the dogs and I would walk the property. The farmer had trained them to chase off the local roos and wallabies to protect the crops, so as we walked I would watch them first spot a wallaby in the distance, then drop into stalk mode — creeping closer and closer until the wallaby finally clocked them and bolted... and in that moment the chase was on. The two dogs would unleash after it and disappear from sight, returning five or ten minutes later, mission accomplished. This work tries to capture the explosive energy of that moment.
