Sunset study — Taylors Lake

Just off the highway near Horsham sits a man-made reservoir called Taylors Lake. It wasn't my first choice for a camp but it was late, the light was fading, and after passing the turnoff I made a U-turn and followed the road around the lake to the campground — a pull-up-some-dirt affair amongst the gums. After setting up quickly there was just enough time to sit at the edge of the lake and paint. The drowned trees stood like sculptures in their dramatic skeletal poses, the reeds moving to the rhythm of gently lapping waves as the full moon rose from the opposite bank, leaving a shimmering path of light across the water. It was a hypnotic scene.
