When I arrived at Scotts Bay a lone seal was flopping about near the shore, apparently having a great time. I'd heard about this particular seal — a unique creature to be living in the lake, and one I hadn't encountered in forty years of visiting Lake Wallagoot. As I walked to the opposite side of the bay I reluctantly accepted that the seal would have to be the subject of another painting.
A large group of pelicans began their journey towards me, sailing from the far side of the bay before taking to the air and flying in a line — flapping then gliding, low above the surface. As I painted, a fisherman motored his boat straight towards me. When he reached the shallows in front of me he cut the engine and cast his line.
"Having any luck?" I enquired.
"Sorry to ruin your peaceful spot," he replied.
"That's fine," I said. "Stay there long enough and I'll make you the subject of a painting."
He chuckled — but it wasn't long before the motor was running again and he left as quickly as he'd come.
