Goanna Headland

The weathered sandstone cliffs of Goanna Headland, just south of Evans Head, are home to wonderful pandanus trees — a common sight along the coast of the Northern Rivers region of NSW. Their distinctive pyramid-patterned aerial support roots and long sword-like leaves growing in clusters make them a perfect subject to paint. Couple that with the exquisite layered forms of the sandstone cliffs and you've got a recipe for success. Looking north back toward Evans Head, I think this painting achieves exactly that.
