This work marked a turning point in my practice. It was the first time I dared to be so bold with colour and scale, and it paved the way for the three Early Ink Studies that followed. The confident brushwork and colour contradict a subject matter that was still finding its way — pioneering, exploratory, with a sense that anything was possible. The wild expressive energy of the work captures exactly where I was in my practice at that time.
